Welcome to Burton and District Bee Keepers Association - formerly the Burton Branch of the Derbyshire Bee Keepers Association. The ancient history of the club is very limited, but records for our Honey Show date back to 1954. In January 2017 we attained Association status in our own right, embarking on a new era. . Burton and District Beekeepers Association welcome all with an interest in honeybees and beekeeping, from the enthusiastic beginner to the most educated Master Beekeeper, to come and join us. Every one of us has something to share and offer, whether it be enthusiasm, experience, or both.
Although Covid-19 completely prevented us from running our normal programme of practically-focused meetings and apiary visits, study groups, and workshops, we have now resumed our programme of regular monthly meetings at the Henhurst and District Social Club, in Burton-on-Trent (see our Program, News and Other Events for details). We aim to help those new to beekeeping to develop the experience, knowledge, and skills to enable them enjoy this fascinating and ancient craft..
So far this year, we have provided several courses for newer members to venture into practical beekeeping, including practical experience of handling them in our training apiary. We also aim to provide a course for more experienced members to prepare for the BBKA (British Beekeepers Association) Basic Certificate in Beekeeping. We can provide classes as needed, to help those members who want to go on to expand their knowledge of different aspects of beekeeping, develop new skills, and gain recognition for this through examination by the BBKA. We have a comprehensive library available for members to borrow from which you can view elsewhere on our website.
Our training apiary provides practical training for our members, a small shop for beekeeping supplies, and very attractive environment for our colonies of bees who are now living there. Please see the Training Apiary pages for further details
We welcome everyone interested in bees and beekeeping; if this is you, do come along to one of our meetings and find out more - there's no obligation to join the Association, come and get to know us first.
But if you are interested in joining, please go to our Membership pages (see above), where further details can be found; and if you would like any further information, please use the contact form, and we will be happy to respond.
